Library’s Statue is Being Repaired

Posted September 20, 2012 | Posted in Front Page

Drawing of Metaporphasis statueHave you ever driven past the Library and wondered about the statue in the front of the building?

The 12-foot high oxidated steel sculpture “Metamorphosis” was created by Villa Park artist Leonard William Lasko, who donated the sculpture to the Library in 1988. At the time of donation, the value of the sculpture was $23,000. The statue was regarded by Chicago area art developers as “an outstanding example of contemporary art” and was requested to be displayed in a special sculpture exhibit in Chicago in 1989.

After years of exposure to the elements, the statue is in need of repair. The repair is projected to be completed by the middle of October and should extend the life of the statue for several years.
