Early Childhood Coordinator

 The Villa Park Public Library is seeking an individual committed to promoting early childhood literacy for a position as an Early Childhood Coordinator.

Under the direction of Department Heads from both Youth, Circulation and Outreach, the Early Childhood Coordinator will manage and deliver comprehensive services for families and children from birth through age five. Responsibilities include early childhood family education, family outreach at community locations, and promotion of early literacy.

Salary Range:  $18.50–20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications

Hours:  15 hours per week, including week days and some weekend days to accommodate outreach events throughout the community

Core Job Functions:

  • Plans and implements early childhood and parenting programs, both at the library and off-site.
  • Creates and produces materials for these programs.
  • Conducts tours, training, and storytimes for visiting preschools and daycares.
  • Collaborates with community partners, including preschools, daycare facilities, medical offices, and other relevant organizations.
  • Assists patrons by providing information and by identifying and locating library materials.
  • Drives the outreach van.
  • Creates and maintains book displays.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of children’s literature, popular materials, and reference materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct storytimes for children.
  • Competency in MS Office products and keyboarding skills required.
  • Ability to express self well in English, both orally and in writing, required.
  • Bilingual ability (English and Spanish) preferred.
  • One year or more of experience working with young children and their families required.
  • One year or more of experience involving work with the public preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
