Full-Time Positions
DEPUTY DIRECTOR
Salary Range: A range of $38.67 to $45.75 per hour; offers made within this range are based on competencies, experience, and internal pay equity

Hours: 37.5 hours/week (full-time); hours include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends
Core job functions include:
- Collaborates with Department Heads in resolving ongoing public service issues or challenges.
- Conveys library policies and procedures to the staff and public.
- Identifies new or unique library services, programs, and trends in conjunction with Managers that are on local and national levels. Leads and manages special projects and tasks and provide updates and reports as needed.
- Works or shadows a public service desk rotation as appropriate for thorough understanding of needs and workflows.
- Assists the Director in the development and implementation of policies, strategies, goals, and objectives of the library.
- Supervises the Public Information Coordinator. Works with the Programming, Outreach, Marketing, Services Team in coordinating, marketing, and producing events for the library.
- Assists the Director with preparation, presentation, and administration of the complete library operating budget.
- Assists the Director in banking operations.
- Attends regular and special meetings of the Board of Library Trustees.
- Collaborates with the Business Office to ensure consistency across job duties and job descriptions as appropriate.
- Coordinates collection of annual report information for the village and the State Library.
- Prepares monthly reports for the Board of Library Trustees.
- Serves as a Library Ambassador with our patrons, co-workers and out in the community.
- Serves as lead FOIA and OMA officer.
- Serves in a village service club (Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary).
- Communicates problems that arise with the Director; addresses situations where patrons are not following the Patron Code of Conduct.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Verifies vouchers and invoices for payment; approves payroll; approves Personnel Change Notices; approves time off requests; approves meeting room requests.
- Assists the Library Director with on-boarding of new Board trustees.
Required qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Five years of public library experience required.
- Three years of supervisory experience required.
- Proficiency in the use of personal computer technologies, including desktops, laptops, tablets, smart phones, and Internet applications.
- Experience with digital media software and familiarity with Windows, Android, Apple, and mobile platforms/environments.

BUSINESS MANAGER
The Business Manager handles financial accounting, accounts payable, payroll, human resources, and other business office responsibilities. In this role, you must be highly accurate, well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to safeguard confidential information.
Responsibilities include:
- Bank reconciliations, journal entries, invoice entry, check generation, financial reports
- Payroll processing and benefits administration
- Processing and tracking donations
- Creating and maintaining personnel records
- On-boarding and off-boarding employees
- Acts as IMRF liaison with the Village, preparing forms and uploading files
- Prepares and organizes documents for the annual audit
- Prepares and submits annual Treasurer’s Report
- Prepares Library Board meeting agendas and Board packets
- Works closely with the administrative team
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution required
- Three or more years of applicable experience required
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles required
- Proficiency in financial software required; prior experience with Sage accounting software preferred
- Prior experience with Paylocity payroll software preferred
- Knowledge of principles of human resources preferred

Part-Time Positions
Circulation/Outreach Assistant
Part-time – 14 hours / week (Average)
Schedule: We are looking for a candidate who has a flexible schedule to help cover morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. The schedule will include:
- A minimum of one evening shift per week
- Saturdays (on a rotational basis)
- Sundays (on a rotational basis, September – April)
Salary: $17.50 – $21.99 per hour, dependent on qualifications based on internal equity.
Benefits: This position is eligible for the following benefits: Illinois paid leave; paid holidays if the holiday falls on a regularly scheduled workday.
Job duties include:
- Assists patrons at the service desks. Duties include, but are not limited to, circulating library materials, issuance of library cards, answering telephones, and collecting fines and fees.
- Provides direct assistance to patrons with information regarding library materials, computer catalogs, electronic resources, the Internet, equipment, and services.
- Receives and physically processes requests from patrons for library materials available from this library’s automation system and OCLC.
- Assists Department Head with outreach activities and represents the library at community events.
- Processes donated materials for inclusion in the collection, outreach giveaways, or book fundraisers.
- May create and maintain book displays.
- May serve as Passport Acceptance Agent.
- May shelve library materials in correct locations and maintain shelving areas so patrons and staff can locate materials.
- Cooperates as a team member with the library staff in performing any duties essential to the achievement of effective library operations.
Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma required.
- Competency in MS Office products required.
- Ability to express self well in English, both orally and in writing, required.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred.
- One to two years of customer service experience preferred.
- Fluent Spanish language skills preferred

Youth Services Associate
Hours/week: 15–16 hours per week
Salary: $18.50–$21.50 per hour, dependent on qualifications based on internal equity
The Villa Park Public Library seeks a versatile, service-oriented person to become our new Public Services Associate. We are looking for individuals who are energetic, organized, and excited about working with patrons of all ages, especially youth. Strong technology skills are required, as is the ability to provide assistance both one-on-one and through group instruction.
The job includes working at our Service Desk, and conducting programs for young children and families. Typical desk duties are answering reference questions, providing tech support/troubleshooting, and handling program registrations. Also required are circulation responsibilities such as: checking items in and out, assisting patrons with accounts, and issuing library cards.
Candidates must have a High School diploma; a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred. Competency in MS Office products is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous work experience with customer service, children and families, and libraries and technology. Those who speak Spanish are also strongly encouraged to apply.
Due to the scheduled hours, this position would be a great fit for those looking to work nights and weekends and/ or those who are unavailable to work during Monday-Friday daytime hours.
The Public Services Associate position averages 15–16 hours per week. The position requires 11 evening hours scheduled from Monday-Thursday every week, subject to change with the needs of the library; one Saturday shift every other week from 9 am–5 pm; and one Sunday shift every other week from 12:45–5 pm during the months of September through April.
