Public Services Associate in Youth Services

Hours/week: 22.5 hours / week
Salary: $13.00 / hour, depending on qualifications

Description:

The Villa Park Public Library seeks a friendly, service-oriented person to become our new Public Services Associate in Youth Services. We are looking for someone who is energetic, self-motivated, and enthusiastic about working with youth and families.

The job includes planning and conducting programs for children and families, and working at our Information Desk. Typical desk duties include answering reference questions, and providing technology support/troubleshooting. This position also coordinates programs with outside parties, and assists with planning library events.

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous work experience with children and families.

The Public Services Associate in Youth Services position averages 22.5 hours a week. The position requires the following shifts every week: 8:45 am–1:00 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays; 5:00–9:00 pm on Wednesdays; and 8:45 am–5:00 pm on Fridays. There is also one shift every fourth week on Saturdays from 9:00 am–5:00 pm and one shift every fourth week on Sundays from 1:00–5:00 pm. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, there are no Sunday shifts.

Benefits will include Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), sick leave, and vacation leave (after 3 years of service).

Public Services Assistant in Youth Services    (two positions)

The Villa Park Public Library seeks two versatile, reliable, service-oriented individuals to become our new Public Services Assistants in Youth Services. Join a team that is committed to providing a high level of service to the public and works with patrons of all ages. We are looking for active self-starters who have genuine interest in working with youth and families.

Key responsibilities include working at our Information Desk where we assist patrons with identifying and locating materials, answer reference questions, and provide readers’ advisory services, homework help, and instructional support. Other responsibilities include programming for youth, such as story times for young children and families, and assisting with program registrations and preparations. Additional duties may include creating and maintaining booklists and displays, and special projects as assigned.

The Public Services Assistant in Youth Services “A” position averages 13.5 hours a week.  It requires the following shifts: 8:45 am–1:00 pm every Wednesday; 1:00–9:00 pm every Thursday; one shift every eighth week on Saturdays from 9:00 am–5:00 pm; and one shift every other Sunday from 1:00–5:00 pm. There are no Sunday shifts between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The Public Services Assistant in Youth Services “B” position averages 13 hours a week.  It requires the following shifts: 1:00–9:00 pm every Wednesday; 12:30–5:00 pm every Thursday; one shift every eighth week on Saturdays from 9:00 am–5:00 pm; and one shift every fourth Sunday from 1:00–5:00 pm. There are no Sunday shifts between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree are preferred.

Starting wage is $11.50/hour, depending on qualifications.
