Library Cards

Get a library card application now!

Your library card is the key to the resources of the Library. It is issued free of charge to Villa Park residents for a three-year period. All applicants will be asked to prove that their residence is within the legal boundaries of the Village of Villa Park by showing two forms of identification bearing their current address and a photo ID. Applicants under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign their application. Borrowers are responsible for all materials charged on their card.

Family Fee Cards for residents of unincorporated areas may be purchased on an annual basis. Visa and  MasterCard are accepted. Ask at the Circulation desk for the current fee. Family Fee Cards entitle the holder to full use of the Library. Family Fee Cards are issued to family members living at the same address; each family member may request his or her own card.

The Library issues cards to Oakbrook Terrace residents under a contractual arrangement with the City of Oakbrook Terrace. Oakbrook Terrace residents must apply for their cards first at the City Clerk’s office, then bring the approved application to the Library. The fee is paid to the Library by the City of Oakbrook Terrace. These cards offer full use of the Library and are issued for one year, to every member of the family requesting one.

The fee to replace a lost card is $2.00.

Mobile Notifications

Sign up to receive library alerts via text message. You’ll recieve alerts when materials are about to come due and when material you placed on hold becomes available. You can renew materials right from you phone.

Your Responsibility For Library Materials

If you keep materials overdue, you are charged a daily fine. The first overdue notice is sent when the material is 10 days overdue. A telephone reminder call is made a week later. A statement of fines and fees is sent when material is about four weeks overdue. Fines accumulate until the date of billing. Postage costs incurred to send overdue notices are added to the fines.

If there is no satisfactory response to the statement within 14 days, the account is referred to a collection agency and an additional collection fee is charged.

If you lose library material, you will be expected to pay the cost of the material and fines.  If the item is an Interlibrary Loan, you will be charged the cost of the item and processing fee as determined by the owning library.  Payment of fines and fees may be charged to your Visa or MasterCard.

Requesting and Reserving Books

Villa Park Library card holders may call the Adult Reference desk at 834-1164 or the Youth Services Department at 834-1176 to ask that circulating materials be held at the Circulation desk, to reserve circulating materials which are not on the shelves, to request an interlibrary loan, or to request the acquisition of materials not held by the Library. Requests may also be placed in person at the Adult Reference, Readers Advisory, and Youth Services desks.

Card holders with PINs may also reserve circulating materials themselves on the Library’s catalog in the Library or via the Internet.

Reciprocal Borrowing and Interlibrary Loan

Villa Park residents’ library cards may be used at most other public libraries in Illinois.

All card holders may request books or copies of periodical articles not owned by the Library via the interlibrary loan program.  Most interlibrary loans are free, but a small fee may be charged for photocopies or for books which must be borrowed from an out-of-state library.  To request an interlibrary loan, contact the Adult Reference desk (834-1164) or Youth Services Department (834-1176).
