What will the renovated and expanded library feature?

There were many reasons to renovate and upgrade the library and its systems.  Please find a few, featured items listed below:

  • Upgrades and replacements to major systems (roof, boilers, air handlers).
  • Additional parking.
  • Redesigned lobby with vestibule.
  • Upgraded lighting.
  • More power outlets.
  • New furniture and carpeting.
  • Technology demands are ever-changing and additional space will help to address these demands.
  • Materials will be easily accessible for all age groups and shelving will meet ADA standards.
  • A new elevator which will meet ADA and International Building Code requirements.
  • More meeting room space for programs, meetings, and events.
  • Study rooms for children and teens.
  • New teen space.
  • New restrooms.
  • A quiet reading room on the second floor.
  • Dedicated Youth Program Room.

How long will the renovation take?

Construction will occur in three phases totaling 12-15  months. Go to to get detailed information of what you can expect during the project. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience during this project.

What does the renovation cost?

The $10.6 million budget includes all areas of the Library and comprises construction costs, new flooring, furniture, shelving, upgraded lighting and remodeled bathrooms.

Who is responsible for the construction?

Williams Architects was hired to create functional spaces for reading, sharing resources, accessing technology, and connecting the community. Wight & Company was hired as the contractor.

Will the Library stay open?

Our goal is to maintain regular hours throughout the project. If at any time construction demands that we modify hours, we will keep patrons informed via our website or Facebook page.

Will it be noisy and dusty?

Our aim is to keep noise and dust at a minimum. Plastic dust barrier systems will be installed around all work areas.

Will I be able to use a study room?

Study rooms will be replaced with new expanded spaces and will not be available during Phase 2 of the construction.

What will happen with the meeting room?

The second floor meeting room will not be available during Phase 2 of the construction.

Will I be able to check out books?

Yes, you will be able to check out books. However, collections will be moving around to accommodate construction. Some items may be stored offsite and access will be limited during construction. We will keep you updated via our website. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please ask one of our staff members. We are here to help you throughout this process.

We are expanding our online collection of books, music and videos. These resources are available 24/7—with no dust and noise.

Will the computers/technology be available?

Computers, copiers, printers and the scan/fax stations will be available but moving around to accommodate construction. While we are building a new, larger Digital Media Lab, there will be limited access to this equipment.

Will there be programming?

Yes, we will continue to offer programming for kids, adults and teens. However, some programs will be on hiatus or held offsite during construction. We are planning on several “pop-up” programs throughout the year. Visit our website or Facebook Page for updates.
