Three Women of the Civil War

At 7:00 pm on Monday, March 11, historical actress Betty Kay from Jacksonville, Illinois, will introduce her audience to Three Civil War Women–all from Illinois and all of whom played unique parts in the War. Most famous of these was battlefield nurse, Mary Bickerdyke from Galesburg, Illinois. Jennie Hodgers from Belvidere, Illinois, fought the whole war as a man named Albert Cashier. Julia Dent Grant, wife of Ulysses Grant, stayed close by her husband through the war and is credited with keeping his spirits up–and his fingers away from the liquor bottle.
